G2O: Generating Girls Opportunities
G2O is an initiative of The Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF) designed to engage girls, parents, and teachers in expanding girls' educational opportunities.
Since 1973 CWEALF has worked to advance women's rights and opportunities in Connecticut. With special expertise in family law, sex discrimination in employment and education, hate crimes and LGBT civil rights, CWEALF is dedicated to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and low-income people. As one of the oldest women's rights organizations in the country, CWEALF is a vital resource to women and policy makers in Connecticut. To visit the CWEALF website please click here.
The purpose of G2O is to:
- Provide programming to encourage girls' enrollment in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in high school and beyond; and,
- Share resources to help guide girls to informed decisions about their educational paths.
Girls & STEM Expos
Under G2O, CWEALF plans and implements more than five Girls & STEM Expos every year, serving approximately 600 girls and their teachers. Each one-day Expo is held at a local college or university and consists of hands-on workshops and team-building exercises led by women in STEM careers. Some of the hands-on workshops include The Amazing Cube, Battling ‘Bots, Catapulting to a Solution, Toying with Engineering and many more!
CWEALF staff and our Expo partners make sure that each girl leaves with a better understanding of STEM careers and STEM-related materials including an activity guide, STEM career information, jeweled safety glasses, a fun t-shirt and new friends!
Our goal is to create a day of fun and education to help ignite the passion of the next generation of women leaders. If you would like to make a contribution, or sponsor a girl or a class of girls for our next Expo, please click here.
